Calumet City, IL – The Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) recently announced Stephanie Blanco as chair of the Government Report Review Committee.  Blanco, 39, is the Senior Manager at John Kasperek Co., Inc. in Calumet City, Illinois.  She was recently elected by her peers on the committee–currently comprised of 30 accounting professionals from all around the Greater Chicago area.  Blanco’s first meeting as chairperson is on May 26, 2016.

“I am excited for the opportunity to represent the Illinois CPA Society in this new role and it is always an honor to serve with my talented colleagues,” said Blanco.  “The Governmental Report Review Committee has been doing important work and I look forward to drawing on my extensive governmental accounting experience to contribute to its mission.”

The objective of the Government Report Review Committee is “to conduct annual reviews of audit opinions issued by public accountants and related annual financial statements for Illinois units of local government, collect information on common errors, and distribute such information to the membership.” An example of the committee’s work includes their adaptation of the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) General Purpose Checklist for its own use to improve governmental financial accounting and reporting by Illinois CPAs. (The checklist incorporates all GASB standards through GASB Statement No. 64 – Derivative Instruments: Application of Hedge Accounting Termination Provisions and GASB Statement No. 70 – Accounting and Financial Reporting for Nonexchange Financial Guarantees.)

The committee meets five times per year with additional sub-committee participation.  At a minimum, members are required to participate in Committee Day and the yearly Governmental Report Review Committee courses.

Blanco earned her CPA in 2000.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from Davenport University.  She has been employed at John Kasperek Co., Inc. for 18 years.
