Calumet City, IL – John Kasperek Co., Inc., a Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm in Calumet City, Illinois, partnered with New Star for the benefit of South Holland residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities during the Illinois CPA Society’s (ILCPAS) annual CPA Day of Service on Sept. 23.

Company staff spent their workday beautifying the home of four men who range in age from 30's to 60's. The home is one of 23 residences within the New Star’s Community Living program. The residents in the home have mild to severe disabilities, and regularly attend New Star’s workshop in Dolton to participate in vocational, recreational and therapeutic programs.

The ILCPAS coins the “good day for a good deed” as a flexible opportunity for Illinois CPAs and CPA firms to help their communities by participating in a volunteer activity.

Company President John Kasperek, Jr. said the service was part of their “ongoing outreach to give back to the community in which we work and live.”  He said his company has supported New Hope Center in the past. As of July 1, New Hope Center and SouthSTAR Services began operating as New Star, a 501(c)(3) community service agency serving over 650 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who live throughout the Chicagoland area and Northwest Indiana.

“We are so grateful to businesses like John Kasperek Company who see ‘giving back’ as an integral part of their corporate culture, willing to reserve time during the workday to make a difference in others’ lives,” said Jennifer Wojcikowski, Chief Development and Communications Officer, New Star. “The work they did is not something the residents of this home can accomplish on their own, and it not only helped to make them proud of where they live, but also reinforced for the surrounding neighborhood that our folks make great neighbors!”
